A few words from Simon on his experience at the World Masters, where he won two medals in the individual ski race and the ski relay: 'I competed in two events at the World Masters, the 50-54yr individual ski race and the 150yr combined age group ski relay. On the Saturday morning we had heats to qualify for the final and I must admit I was nervous as I had 3 former Australian title holders in my heat. However had a great race and qualified. In the 14 man final, I lead going around the cans, got passed by Cliff Goulding on the way in and got beaten on the line by Doug Iredale for a bronze medal. The ski relay, I combined with Wayne Parker (ex Taylors Mistake) and Brett Leask (Waimairi). I lead out coming in second, Wayne put in a terrific 2nd leg to give us a 30 metre lead, unfortunately Brett gave away 10 years to the other competitors in the final leg and he got run down in the run up the beach to finish 3rd. It was a great experience and I enjoyed racing for Taylors Mistake again after not being on a ski for nine years!'.
