Bev Breward
28th October 1936 - 25 Dec 2008
The Taylors Mistake Surf Club will have one less beach lover this summer with the passing of Beverley Breward on Christmas day 2008.

Beverley was a lifetime member of the Surf Club and had a strong competitive history, competing in what was called 6 man and 4 man events from 1954 to the late sixties.
She had an impressive collection of gold, silver and, bronze medals won in surf race, March Past and R and R events.
In the early 60's Bev became a pioneer of surfboard riding. She was the only woman in Christchurch to ride waves at that time. Her love of the surf lead her to Hawaii and Australia and for many years to come she would take her annual overseas holiday to her favourite island of Oahu.
Her friendly and supportive team spirit encouraged many new fledgling club members into becoming long-term clubees.
In later years Bev was a regular icon on the beach at Taylors Mistake. Always sitting, directly in front of the surf club with her Hawaiian back support, umbrella and book.
Bev never lost her interest in the Clubs achievements and was a regular attendant at K Day Carnivals and enthusiastically followed progress of the new members.
We say thanks to a much loved and colourful character that will always be remembered in the history of the Taylors Mistake Surf Club.
The funeral will be held at Ferry Park Chapel, 297 Ferry Road, 2pm Monday Jan 5th.
Here are some interesting photos of Bev and her friends from the early days.
