Groundswelll

Project Groundswell

The outcomes of the Groundswell process are now available.  They were presented at a National SLSNZ Groundswell Conference in Rotorua on May 9th and 10th.  Every club in NZ was represented.  The reccomendation from the Groundswell process is that the existing surf life saving district structure be disbanded and replaced by staff employed by SLSNZ and reporting directly to SLSNZ head office in Wellington.  In our case Surf Canterbury will no longer exist.  This will impact on how surf life saving and surf sports operates in our region and we want to make sure that all club members have the opportunity to understand the implications of this change.

At some point we will need to vote in support or opposition to the proposal.  The timing is very short (your committee is working very hard to extend the timeframes).  SLSNZ have asked for an indicative decision from each club by June 21.  A meeting has been arranged by SLSNZ to answer questions by 2 representatives of each club in Canterbury.  This is being held on the 26th May.  We have requested that a SLSNZ representative come to our club to answer specific questions we have.  We are trying to organise this for the week after Queens Birthday weekend.

In the meantime the following document provides information on the proposed changes.
